ConCertainty

ConCertainty is a web application for the systematic determination of measurement uncertainties in the laboratory. It supports laboratories in structured recording, management, and evaluation of measurement data according to normative requirements.

Who is ConCertainty made for?

ConCertainty is aimed at laboratories that need to systematically determine and document their measurement uncertainties, e. g. as part of accreditation according to ISO/IEC 17025.

What can ConCertainty do?

  • Manage master data: matrices, materials, test methods, parameters, test profiles, and laboratory samples
  • Record measurement data: measurement series from everyday laboratory work as well as results from interlaboratory comparison participations
  • Calculate measurement uncertainties: based on the recorded measurement data according to DIN ISO 11352
  • Document results: export as a PDF report

What can't ConCertainty do?

ConCertainty is not a measuring instrument. The application records and manages measurement data that was determined outside the application – on the laboratory's analysis devices or, for example, stored in a LIMS. The actual measurement takes place in the laboratory, not in ConCertainty.

ConCertainty thinks in time periods, not in individual calculations

Unlike an Excel template, where measured values are entered and a result is available immediately, ConCertainty works with a growing data foundation. Series of measurements are recorded and stored permanently – not for a one-time calculation, but so that measurement uncertainties can be evaluated and compared over any desired time periods.

This means: the more data is in the system, the more reliable the evaluations become. ConCertainty is particularly worthwhile when measurement uncertainties are not only to be determined once, but regularly reviewed and documented – for example as part of ongoing accreditation according to ISO/IEC 17025.

The chronological classification of the measurements is crucial here: ConCertainty always evaluates a defined time period. Only measurements recorded within this period are included in the calculation. This ensures that the measurements for the reproducibility and comparability components actually reflect the same laboratory practice – and that values are not compared that arose under different conditions or at a different point in time. With cleanly maintained date information, for example, the measurement uncertainty for the months of January to June can be calculated separately, or alternatively for the first or second quarter or the entire first half of the year – without having to reprocess data or create new calculations.
